Stadium manufactures bespoke cases to hold the weight of eight elephants
Posted on July 19 2019Stadium Export Services has successfully packed three 56” fabricated gate valves. The bespoke cases measuring 7.5 metres long, by 3 metres wide and 5 metres high, have been designed and manufactured by Stadium’s engineers at its site in Gateshead.
The 42 tonne valves have been specially packed so that the weight is evenly distributed across the end connection flanges and the ribs of the valves, leaving sufficient space to ensure that the drain connection valve is clear of the internal case base.
Site Operations Manager, Paul Brady, said: “Taking into consideration the valves’ off-set centre of gravity, the vertically boarded bespoke cases have been designed and constructed so that they are capable of safely holding up to 50,000kg whilst being lifted. This is equivalent to our cases holding up to eight and a half times the weight of an elephant!”
The valves, which will be transported over 4,000 miles to a customer in Saudi Arabia, are the largest valves ever to be manufactured by Stadium’s sister company, BEL Valves. Machined at the BEL Valves facility in Milan, final assembly and testing was conducted at its premises at St. Peters in Newcastle.
